Getting the Best Results from Frame Generation in Hogwarts Legacy

Use Frame Generation to improve motion smoothness in Hogwarts Legacy after establishing stable base performance. It works best as an enhancement, not as a fix for low or inconsistent frame rates.

Build a Stable Baseline First

Before enabling Frame Generation, confirm the game runs smoothly with standard rendering:

  • Set the in-game frame rate to Uncapped
  • Turn off in-game VSync
  • Use the recommended upscaler for your GPU
  • Start with Quality mode
  • Lower demanding graphics settings until gameplay feels stable

After the baseline is stable, enable Frame Generation and check motion smoothness, responsiveness, frame pacing and image quality.

Recommended Starting Configuration

For most 1440p or 4K setups, start with:

  • Upscaling: Quality
  • Frame Generation: On*
  • Frame-rate cap: Uncapped in game
  • VSync: Off in game
  • Latency reduction: On, when available
  • Ray tracing: Off at first
  • Other graphics settings: Start with the default graphic settings which were set automatically when you first launched the game via benchmarking.

*You will be required to restart the title if Frame Generation was previously set to OFF.

Settings Combinations to Avoid

Frame Generation with an in-game frame-rate cap

Avoid leaving the in-game frame-rate limiter enabled. It can restrict the base frame rate used by Frame Generation and reduce responsiveness.

For best results, use an uncapped in-game frame rate with in-game VSync turned off.

Frame Generation with a poor base frame rate

Frame Generation cannot fully resolve traversal stutter, asset-loading pauses, CPU limits or severe performance drops. If the game feels sluggish without Frame Generation, reduce graphics settings first.

Excessive ray tracing

Ray tracing can significantly reduce the base frame rate available to Frame Generation. If performance is unstable, lower or disable ray-tracing features before using more aggressive upscaling.

Low base frame rates with high Frame Generation multipliers

Higher Frame Generation multipliers may increase displayed smoothness but can introduce input lag at low base FPS.

Aggressive upscaling at low resolutions

Performance-focused upscaling uses a lower internal resolution. If image quality issues appear, switch to Balanced or Quality mode and reduce standard graphics settings instead.

Final Recommendation

The best setup is not always the one with the highest reported frame rate. Prioritize stable frame pacing, responsive controls and clean image quality during normal gameplay.

Start with a stable baseline, use Quality upscaling when possible, keep the in-game frame rate uncapped, turn off in-game VSync and enable Frame Generation only once gameplay already feels smooth.
